Tomtom GUAM Problem - "No maps found" problem - Hard Reset

Problem:
1) Only Guam map is available on your TomTom GPS Unit. You have a long trip planned, but not long enough to take you to Guam, what do you do?

Problem usually occurs after you download an update using TomTom Home. Re-installing the maps will not fix this issue.

OR

2) When you turn on your TomTom GPS Unit, you get the error "No Maps Found" even though you have uploaded maps

OR

3) You want to hard reset your TomTom GPS Unit

How to solve:
1) Connect your TomTom Unit to your computer using the USB Cable

2) If TomTom Home starts on your computer, close it. Make sure the Tom Tom icon is not displayed in your system tray (Where you see the time and volume icons, usually on the bottom right of your computer screen. If its there, right click on it and click Exit

3) Open My Computer

4) You should see an icon (The red icon with 2 footsteps) for your TomTom unit displayed as a drive in your computer. If not this icon, there should be a drive called "INTERNAL". Open it to ensure it is the TomTom unit. You can do this by looking for a file called TomTom.ico.

5) Go back to My Computer

6) Right click on this icon and select Format.

7) Make sure the file system selected is FAT32

8) Make sure "Quick Format" is UNchecked.

9) Once formatting is complete, click close

10) Disconnect and then re-connect your TomTom Unit to your computer

11) Start TomTom Home

12) Click on "Check for updates" if it does not do so automatically. It should find the TomTom application as well as some voices. Click on Download and Install

13) Once you are done, click on "Done". Unplug your device when safe to do so, and once it restarts plug it back in.

14) Now click on Add Maps in TomTom Home. The USA and Canada map should still be there. It will find it on your computer. Click on Install. This might take a while.

WE ARE NOT DONE!

15) Unplug your device when safe to do so, and once it restarts plug it back in.

16) In TomTom Home, click on Check updates again. It will find a newer version of the Tom Tom application, download and install this.

17) Unplug your device when safe to do so, and once it restarts plug it back in.

18) Check for updates once again, there should be one more newer version of the TomTom application, download and install this.

19) Unplug your device when safe to do so, and once it restarts plug it back in.

20) ALL DONE! Welcome back to the USA/Canada =P

Please leave a comment if this helped or did not help you fix your TomTom GPS Unit!

  12. After updating the US map on my 720, I had the "Guam only" problem, but found a less nuclear option than the one above that fixed it. Basically it started at step 16 above (rerunning update until no more "Tom Tom Application" updates were offered). Then I installed the only remaining update I was offered, which was Guam map updates. It returned me to main menu and said I was up to date. After disconnecting Tom Tom, I navigated to map selection in preferences and US was now listed there above Guam. Toggled up to select, hit done, and I was back in the USA. Cheers!

  19. This does not work for me. By formatting the device it's just a paperweight for me.

Also, I have lost all my Favorites and POIs. Is there a way to get them back?? I should have taken a backup before formatting.. Will try and check if the TomTom Support can help me out.

  20. I now have zero maps... At least before I could've moved to guam and would've been able to use my TomTom.

I agree with Greg, I'm just going to go buy a Garmin.

  21. I'm on a mac. But after reading a lot of threads on this including the blogpost listed above by simplicit, here is what worked for me.

Even after updating as far as it would let me, even with connecting and disconnecting the device from the computer several times, it turns out there was still another update needed.

Connect the Tom Tom and the Home application opens. Go to manage maps and remove Guam. Disconnect and restart the device.
Reconnect the device and the Home ap open again Close the ap. Reopen it, whala it prompted me for another update. After that I was back in the USA.

  26. It is all about the sparkle as well as the design that
will complement the wearer's clothes. By being able to accomplish your internet shopping you are able to price compare, designs, cuts, and much more by easily switching forwards and backwards between web pages. 27. Essential handheld GPS units are by and large less costly and can even be as low as one hundred dollars. They are pretty much as exact as the more costly handheld units, however they don't have the same number of particular components. http://www.gurufocus.com/news/446229/garmin-is-gaining-favor-after-a-turbulent-period
